Founded in 2013 by Dato’ Tan Yee Boon, Mr. David Lai Chung Yew, and Mr. David Cheong Peng Leong, we have grown to become a dynamic force in the legal realm. With a total of 6 Partners, 1 Principal Associate, 2 Senior Associates, and 14 Associates, our firm is well-equipped to provide expert legal advice and services, both in contentious and non-contentious matters within the corporate and commercial arena. Dato’ Tan Yee Boon

Dato’ Tan is currently the head of our corporate department and focus on initial public offering and other fund-raising exercises.
He was named as “Recommended Lawyer for Capital Markets” by Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2022, 2023 and 2024. He was also ranked as a recommended lawyer in Chambers Asia Pacific in the area of “Corporate/Commercial: Equity Capital Markets”
David Lai Chung Yew

David Lai, one of the founders of David Lai & Tan, was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2000 and regularly handles contentious matters.
The focus of David Lai’s practice is primarily in the areas of civil and commercial litigation.
David Lai is currently the head of litigation division of David Lai & Tan.
David Cheong Peng Leong

David Cheong is a founding partner of David Lai & Tan whose practice covers a broad range of areas including civil, commercial and family law.
He is a collaborative trained lawyer and a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
David Cheong heads the firm’s family law department.
Stephanie Chan Pik Jia

Stephanie is a partner with the firm’s corporate department. Her expertise in equity capital markets and corporate and commercial matters is extensive, spanning both local and cross-border transactions.
Stephanie has also been recognized by the Legal 500 Asia Pacific as a “Rising Star” for year 2023 and “Next Generation Partner” in the area of capital markets for year 2024.
Joaana Keng Li Xin

Joaana is a partner with the firm’s corporate department. Joaana is a distinguished corporate lawyer renowned for her expertise in capital markets, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), initial public offerings (IPOs), joint ventures, and corporate restructuring.
Joaana has also been recognized by the Legal 500 Asia Pacific as a Recommended Lawyer in Capital Markets for year 2023 and 2024.
Carol Chong Yan Teng

Carol is a Partner in the firm’s Corporate Department. She advises on a broad spectrum of corporate and commercial matters, with particular experiences in initial public offerings (IPOs), take-overs, and various corporate transactions.
Her expertise and contributions in the capital markets sphere have been recognized by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, which named her a Recommended Lawyer in Capital Markets (2025).
